Alzheimer's & Dementia

The good news about Alzheimer’s is that whilst there is no real evidence you can bring back brain cells (neurons) there is lots you can do right now to make sure you don’t get the accelerated brain shrinkage that leads gradually from memory decline to Alzheimer’s.

Given that brain shrinkage starts, for many, in their 40’s, these prevention steps should be actioned now, not just later in life. In the reports included on this page you can find out what actions to take now, how to test for memory decline and what foods and supplements will help. Also look out for my podcasts and webinars providing you with a wealth of information to help you understand and combat this devasting disease.

Alzheimer's is Preventable Podcast

In conversation with Professor David Smith, Univeristy of Oxford

Ten years ago this September Professor David Smith and colleagues struck gold when they broke the code of a randomised controlled trial giving people with pre-dementia either relatively high dose B vitamins or placebo. Since then his team at the University of Oxford have delved deeper into the role of both B vitamins and omega-3 fats and why they play a key role in preventing age-related cognitive decline, showing up to 73% less brain shrinkage versus placebo.

David Smith, Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology and former Vice Dean of Oxford University’s Medical Science division, is my guest in this podcast marking the ten year anniversary of an extraordinary discovery which, if it had been taken seriously at the time, could have helped stop many millions of people unnecessarily develop this preventable, but not reversible disease. We’ll be discussing both the evidence, and what this means in terms of your diet and lifestyle to make you dementia-proof. Young or old this information is worth knowing to protect your brain throughout life.

This first podcast in the Brainstormers Series - Alzheimer's is Preventable - is available now.
